NSK is a global company and has a global approach to e-Business, sharing ideas, resource and technology wherever possible. We recognise the need for localisation and have teams in Europe, USA and Japan creating the respective web sites for those areas.
In Europe we have been using electronic trading for many years and have extensive EDI connectivity with our customers, including an on-line stock availability and ordering system. In more recent years, and with the growth of the Web, we have expanded these services offering on-line information and trading capabilities via the Internet. Different customer types have a different need for electronic connectivity and we use technology appropriate to the customer need.
Our large volume customers will continue to use EDI for the foreseeable future but increasingly require engineering and other “collaborative” information using web technology, in particular Extranets. We are working with our largest Global customers using Extranets.
Our distributors and Industrial Customers require a combination of information, ordering on-line, stock availability and EDI. We have taken the simple approach of meeting the customer need with relevant technology. Increasingly industry specific “MarketPlaces” have started to appear, we have entered these on a selective basis and will continue to enter them where it makes sound business sense for NSK and our chosen Customer segments. We are careful to ensure that this does not conflict with our existing distribution sales channel.
NSK is also focussed on using web technology to improve our internal processes and effectiveness, and increasing the speed of doing business. We have extensive Intranets within Europe, USA and Japan all linked as part of our global Intranet. We have seen major benefits from the visibility, sharing and processing of information using these global Web technology standards.
Our view of the future is that web technology with increasing standardisation, whether applied to internal processes, external facing processes or a combination will help to improve business efficiencies and communication. Our approach will continue to be business led.
